The return of Leonardo Jardim to AS Monaco after the sack of Thierry Henry ended in defeat as Guingamp came from behind to steal the win on penalties.

Monaco were ahead early in the encounter when Gelson Martins rolled the ball for Rony Lopes to score for Monaco.

Five minutes later, Gelson Martins was at it again as he once again rolled the ball up for Russian Aleksandr Golovin to score the second goal for Monaco.

Indeed it was like a return of an hero with great magic in the bag for Monaco and their supporters. Monaco led the game till the break.

However at the start of the second half, EA Guingamp came up with a different approach after the half time team talk as Mendy quickly pulled one back for Guingamp.

Nine minutes into the second half, Rodelin made a fantastic run to supply Thuram who finished nicely to put the match back on level terms.

Monaco eventually lost the game on penalties after giving out there two goals lead.

Leonardo Jardim’s return almost changed the situation for the team, but the same old problem still persisted as they gave up their initial two-goal lead.

With this result, Monaco are comfirmed out of the Coupe de La Ligue.

The club will now focus on survival in the Ligue 1
